Studies in Walter Pater and Aestheticism 9

We are delighted announce that Studies in Walter Pater and Aestheticism, issue 9, will be ready for circulation in November 2024. Issue 9 contains four essays—by A. R. Gunn on Pater’s “eclectic world-making”; by Laurel Brake on biographies of Pater; by Daniel Orrells on Pater’s and Symonds’s respective volumes of Studies issued in 1873; and by Catherine Maxwell on William Blake Richmond’s bronze and marble plaque honoring Pater, which is housed in the chapel of Brasenose College. Issue 9 also features two critical editions. The first is Alex Murray’s edition of Michael Field’s “Thoughts and Descriptions,” a manuscript that predates their Works & Days. The second is Fraser Riddell’s edition of the Harry Ransom Center manuscript of Vernon Lee’s “A Wicked Voice.” There are as well seven reviews of recent studies of aestheticism and decadence.
